Free Speech will not condone defamation - and once a judgment is filed (and as in my case, domesticated) moving forward to collections is the next step. A jury awarded me over $11M in damages ($5M of it is for punitive damages) which is not dischargeable in bankruptcy count. As you have read in my previous posts, we are now in this process and I will keep you posted on the details.
The defendant will be held accountable - after both being denied to have the judgment set aside, the defendant is now facing wage garnishment, possibly personal or involuntary bankruptcy and others means of collections.
To learn more about this case, you can pre-order my new book - Google Bomb - now available for pre-order on Amazon. I believe my case is the beginning of many more - my advice, think twice before you post!

Free Speech is Still Here - Internet Defamation is Still Costly
For those that still are convinced that if you nothing to lose (financially or morally) - you think you have no worries as you continue to defame others online -think twice. Life as you know it can become extremely stressful - now that I have the domesticated judgment for $11.3M - an examination under oath is being scheduled for the defendant.
If she chooses to be not 100% truthful, there are many legal ways to determine the truth and what assets have been transferred to avoid being ceased.
Garnishment of wages will be included and I am confident many people in today's times would not want to be part of this.
The moral of this is - be careful what you type online - it may not only come back to haunt you, but it could definitely cost you! With today's recession the last thing you need is a judgment for any amount.
Free Speech is still alive and well - but it will never condone defamation!
Google Bomb, my next book will fully cover this subject!

$11.M Judgment Domesticated - Collections Move Forward
I have many people emailing me as Internet Defamation is growing, however at the same time, more and more lawsuits are being filed.
My landmark case that gave me an $11.3M jury verdict for damages was the initial breakthrough, but more are coming down the pike. Here is a recent article that was posted yesterday: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/AheadoftheCurve/Story?id=6960397&page=1
My collections on my defendant is in progress. Now the that judgment is domesticated we will be moving forward and Bock will be held accountable financially. Although many people believe that a judgment can be a useless piece of paper, it can also cost you plenty.
Remember, think before you want to use a keypad as a weapon, it could be costly!

Sue Scheff Starts Collections for 2009 for Internet Defamation
After winning an unprecedented jury verdict for damages in 2006 ($11.3M), the defendant attempted to have her judgment set aside. It was strongly denied not only by the judge, but also in the Court of Appeals she lost again.
So for 2009 - the collections process will start. Although the defendant has continually states she is a victim of Hurricane Katrina - which prevented her from her legal obligations, this is not 100% truthful. Yes, she may be from the New Orleans area, but she sold her house in LA (court proven documents) about a month prior Katrina. Furthermore, she attended at least 2 depositions with her attorney's after Katrina.

More information - click here: http://suescheffblog.com/2008/11/sue-scheff-victorious-again-confirming-free-speech-will-not-condone-defamation/
If you believe that Free Speech will allow defamation, think twice. This jury sent a strong message as well as the appellate court. Carey Bock will be held accountable for her malicious and defamatory statements. After losing her appeal, the collections process begins in 2009.

The jury sent a strong message with a verdict for damages of over $11M - $5M for punitive - meant to punish. So when you think about using your keypad to harm someone - think twice.
The the Appeals Court sent a double strong message - she will not have her judgment set aside.

Sue Scheff Wins Again Proving Free Speech is Here - but Won't Condone Defamation
It has been almost 2 years since I won the unprecedented $11.3M jury verdict for damages that was done to me. In these past 2 years I have been contacted by many victims of Internet Defamation and Slander. You can feel literally powerless - however also know, that with my case, the truth is always your defense.
There have been many articles written about this new rage and growing concern not only with parents of teens online, but with business owners and regular people.
I didn't ask to become a limited public figure, and many people don't ask for this - with all the media attention I can be considered this since my initial victory in September 2006.
I will continue being a voice against Internet Defamation - as well as working with my Senator and Congresswoman towards new legislation to help protect individuals and their careers.
